Ahhh, the joys of being a funny woman of comedy. Comics, Standups, Musical Comedy, Comedy Shows, Basically being a woman just means comedy central.
This organization was started because the women of the comedy communities in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, and all over are hungry to connect.
It can be lonely when you are a minority. And the truth is, the statistics don't lie. Only 8.3% of comedy headliners at Caroline's on Broadway were women from 2011-2014.
Most people don't realize that even though it's 2015, women are not equal. We have not yet achieved gender parity in many areas, but especially in the world of Comedy. Second City, iO (improv Olympic), The Annoyance, The PIT, UCB, you name it. Women are hardly equal. With the exception of the Second City mainstages, when was the last time you saw a gender balanced harold team, cast, or lineup of shows at these institutions? Pull up any number of their pages and the casts and writers will refelct the microcosm that is our inequality.
But we are not here to focus on the negative. Women In Comedy is here to connect. This is a place to support women in comedy, funny ladies, female writers, female standup comics, female sketch comedy writers, female agents, female producers, you name it - we want to connect to one another and help achieve gender parity in our industry by lifting each other up.
So, what are you waiting for? Join the Lady List and help become part of the revolution. We would be happy with 50%!
