The Chicago, Grand Rapids, Miami, and Boston comedy communities are coming together Valentine's week 2016 to address sexism and harassment toward women in the comedy community by laughing in the face of adversity.

Celebrate Valentine's Day early by joining powerful female pillars in the Chicago community including YWCA’s CEO and others reading love letters to themselves. The letters will be intertwined with a huge, hilarious all-female cast of women from various theaters in the city including burlesque by Vaudezilla, all star improv, stand-up by Kelsie Huff, sketch comedy, musical comedy by The Cupid Players, solo improv by Angie McMahon, and sketch by Ebony Essence Jet just to name a few.

A Love Letter To Myself honors all the ways we love ourselves and the journeys we take to get there.

"It's 2016 and yet, women in the comedy industry are struggling to exist and forge careers within a system that is broken. So, we've decided to create our own system. We are building a national army, and 'A Love Letter to Myself' is the kickoff to celebrating women's comedic voices in safe spaces. And, honestly, what better place to kickoff this community building than the heart of the nation's comedy scene, Chicago, by celebrating what we love about ourselves, and with the support of The Laugh Factory? " Says Victoria Elena Nones, Executive Director of Women In Comedy Non-Profit.

“The YWCA is proud to be part of this historic event. Each and every woman is on her own empowerment journey and we help women along that journey by providing coaching, counseling and resources. Self-reflection and laughter are very therapeutic and we love being part of bringing this opportunity to the women of Chicago,” says Dorri McWhorter, CEO for YWCA Metropolitan Chicago.

Angie McMahon, Founder of Chemically Imbalanced Comedy and a performer donating her time to the show, reminds us, "I think it's important that women support women. Sometimes it feels so easy to tear each other down. Enough forces in the world tear us down, let's practice lifting each other up. It feels so much better."

Women In Comedy, in partnership with YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, presents the inaugural, all-female comedy show A Love Letter To Myself on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 8:30pm at The Laugh Factory Chicago, 3175 N Broadway Street, Chicago, IL 60657. This production is preceded by a free speed networking event for women in the comedy industry at 6:30pm at the Laugh Factory Chicago. The show will feature a handful of love letters written by prominent, female, Chicago community members to themselves. General admission is $20 plus a two item minimum (cocktails or food items) and proceeds will go to building resources for Women In Comedy as well as to YWCA Metropolitan Chicago who offers a variety of support services for Chicago area women and families.
