A tip from me to you— if you haven’t started binge watching Broad City (not sure if it’s on Netflix, definitely Amazon though), you’re doing yourself a disfavor. Not only is Broad City one of the most relatable comedy shows of our millennial generation, but it’s co-written by and stars Upright Citizens Brigade’s own funny woman Ilana Glazer. With comedic partner Abbi Jacobson, the two female comedians take New York City by storm with their different, crazy antics and painfully awkward moments. Whether it’s Tinder, spending $1,000,000 at Whole Foods or going into anaphylactic shock, Broad City has a moment everyone can relate to.
A New York native, Glazer started taking classes at UCB in 2006. Glazer performed improv and standup for several years and through her comedy met fellow funny lady Abbi Jacobson. It wasn’t until 2009 that the comedic duo started filming a web series called “Broad City”, which in its first few years received positive reviews. With Amy Poehler as producer, Glazer and Jacobson took the script to Comedy Central. The rest, they say, is history.
Fun fact: Did you know that cable network FX had agreed to a script commitment for Broad City but essentially turned it down? Bet they regret that.
