The Chicago comedy community has had its heart broken as discussions of sexism, harassment, and assault have come to the forefront of our typically funny discussions. Many men in the community are at a loss when it comes to how they can take part in the discussions or be of help to the women in the comedy community.

Join Women In Comedy as we bring this discussion and active solutions face to face. With a panel of male allies, Women In Comedy non profit will talk about how men can stand up for women in the comedy world when sexist comments or actions take place.

On Sunday afternoon March 20, 2016, a handful of local male comedians and gatekeepers in the Chicago community including Kevin Mullaney, Co founder and artistic director of Under the Gun Theater, and Scott Dikkers, Founder of The Onion online satirical news, will come together with Women In Comedy at Under The Gun Theater in Chicago. This discussion is free and open to the public and will be a safe space to openly discuss men’s questions and thoughts on how to be allies. All who support women in the comedy industry are welcome to attend. Through this discussion, Women In Comedy hopes to shed light and spark conversations about why, even in 2016, it is so important to advocate for gender parity and breaking down barriers for women in the comedy industry.

Panelist Scott Dikkers, founder of theonion.com says, "I've always been a strong ally for marginalized voices: women, racial or ethnic minorities--you name it--because those are often the people who have the most biting satirical viewpoint."

This discussion will shed light on how women’s voices are marginalized, address some of the specific concerns facing women in the industry, and offer solutions about how men can stand up and support women pursuing careers in a male dominated industry.

We hope you will be present as we host this important discussion and community Q & A from 3:30pm - 5:30pm at the graciously donated Under The Gun Theater located at 956 West Newport Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657. Doors open at 3:15pm. Free and open to the public.
